EUSKAL LINGE - LINGE BASQUE

Over the years, the people of the Basque Country have managed to keep their traditions alive: language, dances, sports... and among these, one of the most deep-rooted traditions of all: Linge Basque.

Many years ago in the Basque Country, artisan weavers used to create fabrics that were characterised by their solidly-woven fibres, brilliant colours and unique stripes. It is this artisanal work that is known as “Linge Basque”.

Originally, Linge Basque was woven exclusively from linen. Growing and processing linen became an art form which was handed down from generation to generation. Today, cotton has gradually replaced linen to become the almost exclusively-used raw material for Linge Basque.
